Great Week!!

What a GREAT week it has been, not only have I had a BLAST doing the SLIME in the media center this week, I got to see Bon Jovi at Phillips arena on Wednesday night - and I just have to say it again - that man (Jon Bon Jovi) just gets better with age!

I took yesterday off as a recovery day and it was a beautiful spring Atlanta day - ate sushi outside, it was FABULOUS!

Today I am welcoming author Coleen Salley to my media center. She is in town for the IRA conference and she will be speaking to Kindergarten and 1st graders. I talked to her on the phone the other day and I just can't WAIT to meet her!

Does it get any better than this!

GO SOX!

what a game last night - Manny pulling it out with a homer in the 9th inning to win. The team is up 2 games, one more win and they win the series.

And of course, who can't be just a little happy that the Yankees lost last night and are 2 games in the hole in their series.

Baseball in October, another reason why October is my favorite month of the year!!

Watching the game on TBS last night, all the promo's featured a song and pictures of my man, Jon Bon Jovi - ahh - could life get any better???

Bon Jovi has done a video for TBS promoting the upcoming baseball playoffs - and of course there are some GREAT shots of Fenway and some of my beloved (and for now, in FIRST PLACE) Boston Red Sox.

Exciting week- nothing to do with Kid Lit at all!

It has been a big summer week here. 1st my boys from New Jersey came out with a new album (Lost Highway) and were on the Today show on Tuesday - now I just have to wait until they tour this winter!

My hometown boys, the Boston Red Sox were in my adopted hometown of Atlanta this week. We had tickets, but the only one that got to go was my oldest son (see next item for why we couldn't make it) and although the boys from beantown gave one to the Braves on Monday, they got them on Tuesday and Wednesday - WTG SOX! And by the way, we are still in 1st place, can't get too excited yet, it is only June, but hey, being in first right now is a nice place to be.

And the best thing to happen this week has been my youngest son. He is 6 and playing on the all star baseball team for our park. His team is now 10-0! They won their first tournament on Saturday (trophy and everything) and we are now playing in the district tournament. Of course since they keep winning, they keep playing, which is wreaking havoc on our home life, since we have to be at the ballpark every night, but it has been a lot of FUN (although we will all be happy this weekend when it will all be OVER for the season!) Friday Smiles

As the school year comes to a close, the only interesting things I am doing in the media center are cleaning, inventory (ugh!) and packing up my stuff. SO today I give you something non-kid lit or library related, but it sure did put a smile on my face this gloomy Friday morning.

The new Bon Jovi video - now if Jon Bon Jovi would only write a children's book - ah, one can dream!

Red Sox, Bon Jovi OH MY!

Although most of my posts on this blog are about library stuff and children's lit, I do have to acknowledge some of my other passions here, well because, it' s my blog :)

Jen, from Jen Robinson's Book page reminded me that I haven't posted about another passion in my life - baseball - or more specifically, the Boston Red Sox, as of this moment, 12 days, 18 hours and 12 minutes until opening day - woohoo! Of course baseball season also means crazy scheduling in my house, I have 2 baseball players and baseball in the south, while professional loyalty is something almost unheard of (although Atlanta Braves fans for years have been telling me their PAIN of being a Braves fan - ah, lets just say Bucky F'ing Dent - Bill Buckner anyone? Don't talk to a Red Sox fan about PAIN) youth baseball in the south is an intense thing, even for my youngest son at the age of 6 - we have baseball practice almost every night of the week for one of my boys and games during the week and almost every Saturday. If I didn't love the game so much, I'm not sure I could survive youth baseball!

Another passion of mine - Jon Bon Jovi - ok, this has to do with the group Bon Jovi, but ah, lets just have a mental image of the man for a moment... ok that was nice --- they released a single today from their new album, Lost Highway, which won't be available until JUNE! You can hear the single(You Want) To Make a Memory here, but I can't seem to find it ANYWHERE to download - on a side note, I do LOVE their new song, but I have heard they won't be touring for this album - bummer, their live shows are AWESOME, brings me back to high school and big hair and the 80's (ok, I could do without the reminders of big hair!)

OK, I promise, back to regularly scheduled Library Stew tomorrow!

Pop Culture and Sports

Well, although I do want this blog to reflect my life as a media specialist, I did say that I would HAVE to post about some other fun things once in awhile.

Well the 49th annual Grammy Awards were last night and my man, Jon Bon Jovi won for best country collaboration (CONGRATS BON JOVI) and some great strong women, Mary J. Blige and The Dixie Chicks won BIG last night. I am not a country music fan, but I do like *some* of the Dixie Chick's songs and I was especially happy about their wins last night because of the controversy that has surrounded them in recent years. In a connection to the media center, maybe with the Grammy's happening this past week, highlight some musician biographies or music books in your library (see, there can ALWYS be a connection to POP culture in the library!)

In sports news - BASEBALL SPRING TRAINING STARTS THIS WEEK - woohoo! The Red Sox start reporting this week, with their first practice on Friday. Hopefully we can make the playoffs this year, last fall was a disappointment with us not even making the playoffs, but as a life-long Red Sox fan, it isn't as if we aren't used to disappointing season ending games. My sons' also start their baseball season next week, it just kills me that at the ages of 6 & almost 11 that they will be braving cold temps. to practice 4x a week, and this is suppose to be FUN - handling a metal bat in 40 degree weather is not FUN to me, but I guess to the boys it is, they can't wait to get back out on the field - brrrr!

I am getting some work done at home today since I have a sick child, I just hope that my other 2 don't come down with whatever my oldest has.
